Canon PIXMA MG7140 Series Printer Reviews– The Pixma 7140 has a light-edge design that distinguishes it from certain Canon printers over the past few years and has other design improvements introduced in the last year as the cousin’s Pixma 6320. Use the front top touch panel to control the printer. The 3.5-inch touchscreen display contains most of the features, and the on-screen buttons are displayed as needed. It has a very short learning curve. As with most multifunction devices, lift the panel so that it can access the ink cartridges instead of lifting the entire scanner bezel. You can connect via Wi-Fi, Ethernet or USB.
Paper capacity is limited: a plain paper 125 sheets in the lower cassette, and 20 4×6 inch or 5×7 inch photo paper in the photo tray directly above. When the photo tray is turned upside down, the optical tray is inserted into the slot directly above the output tray. The output tray itself is directly above the tray and automatically opened when printed or copied. Home printers do not have an automatic document feeder (ADF) for scanning or copying commonly viewed multi-page documents, but they’re like paper when viewed. The HP Photosmart 7520 is a low-priced competitor with an and-hem-cheaper ink feature.
The other front panel is folded next to the output tray, which displays three card slots: Secure Digital, Compact Flash, and Memory stick. Wireless PictBridge can be printed through one of them as well.
The Pixma 7140 comes with common printing features (email, Wi-Fi, no NFC) and Canon has apps for Android and IOS. The top-mounted scanner bed is A4/letter in size and has a lid and a telescope that is about an inch long enough to accommodate thick materials.
Canon’s My Image Garden is a scanning, editing, it is a major software application used for printing and image tracking to optical disks, but it is especially useful when you are using an office PC dedicated for printer chores (such as scanning, copying, editing, etc.) to view images on the desktop and start various functions of the printer. Limit the time you have to hunt the application to find the features you need. Occasional use can be overkill.
To get the best results from the Pixma MG7140, you should use good photo paper. Then you should always use a good photo paper. But canon can do better with ink costs. The Pixma 7140 uses a black, pigmented black, cyan color, gray, magenta, and yellow six-color system. This does not include the extra photo black and photo gray, which contributes a little amount to the photo, not the page. The XL capacity cartridge is 4.6 cents per page for black, and 12.7 cents for all four colors, slightly cheaper. Sometimes when you print tickets, web pages, etc., you will incur a significant cost in the MG7140. Many monochrome business documents are not printed.
The output quality of the Pixma MG7140 is a maintenance cost. The photos are a $200 photo printer and the color palette is not overly warm or cool. The text is sharp and wide black areas that will uncover problems with the printing system. No streaks, no streaks, no edges, no cluttering. Nice stuff here.
Performance is better than the average for a photo printer. Subjectively, the output was never felt like it took too long. Especially when using draft mode (sufficient quality for most everyday applications), the ink will be much more. With this number, the Pixma 7140 was printed on a PC at 8.6 per minute, on a Mac with 7.9 pages of text and mixed black and white pages. 4-inch x 6-inch photos are printed at 2.7 per minute on plain paper and 1.7 per minute for glossy paper. The 8.5-inch x 11-inch photo printed on the MAC took less than 2 minutes.
The scanning speed was 30 minutes at 600 dpi and one minute at 1200 dpi. The copy arrived at five pages per minute.
The Canon Pixma MG7140 color Inkjet Multi function offers very nice pictures and text quality. It is also capable of automatic duplex printing and has the easiest controls that the company has produced to date. It is a printer worth it even if I use the ink which is somewhat high.
